Ten Important Hygiene Practices

Whether training jiu-jitsu, defensive tactics, or self-defense, it is critical for everyone involved to maintain proper hygiene practices. Prior to each training session, the Jiu-Jitsu Basement will be swept, vacuumed, and mopped to keep the environment clean for visitors. However, each individual is responsible to maintain their own personal hygiene.

1. No Shoes on Mat

2. Clean Training Gear

3. Trimmed Fingernails and Toenails

4. Clean Hands

5. Fresh Breath

6. Recently Showered

7. Stay Home if Sick – Anyone who has a runny nose, sore throat, cough, running a fever, or just generally not feeling well should not come to train. The Jiu-Jitsu Basement is fully supportive of sharing knowledge, not sharing germs. There will be other days available to train once healthy.

8. No Open Wounds/Sores –

9. No Skin Infections – Skin infections can and do occur. Train long enough, and eventually you will contract ringworm (bacterial), impetigo (viral), or some other type of skin infections. Properly treated, they go away relatively quickly and don’t cause any real harm.

10. Use Foot Wash Station
